Tintri collects the following information through the Site session data and when you provide us information via the Site or in any other way. The manner in which we collect this information is described below.
We collect information on the pages you have visited and the contents of those pages, any information you input, your referring URL or IP address, your time of visit and related session information, your device type, your requested page, Web browser type, USR agent, status of request (successful reply), cookies, number of bytes in the response, and query string. We use this data to better understand Site usage in the aggregate so that we know what areas of our Site users prefer. This information is stored in log files and is used for aggregated and statistical reporting.
Most browsers have an option for turning off the cookie feature, which will generally prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, as well as (depending on the sophistication of your browser software) allowing you to decide on acceptance of each new cookie in a variety of ways. We recommend that you leave the cookies activated. If you choose not to accept (or choose to delete) cookies from Tintri, we may not be able to provide you the full Web Site experience.
We may use third party cookies on our Site as well. For instance, we use Google Analytics to collect and process certain analytics data. Google provides some additional privacy options described at www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/ regarding Google Analytics cookies. Tintri does not process or respond to web browsers’ “do not track” signals or other similar transmissions that indicate a request to disable online tracking of users who visit or use our Site.
We may ask visitors interested in registering to download a document or participating in a marketing campaign offering to register with us by supplying their name and basic contact information. Tintri may also ask you to provide information such as the following:
Tintri also has a voluntary mailing list where users can supply their email address to facilitate periodic communications from Tintri. Individuals that voluntarily register for the mailing list are automatically subscribed to the Tintri voluntary mailing list.
We employ a software technology called “clear gifs” or “web beacons,” which help us better manage content and advertising on our Site by informing us what is effective. Some of these files may be provided by our advertising management partners or advertisers. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier and are similar in function to cookies. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on a user’s computer hard drive, clear gifs are embedded invisibly on Web pages and are about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. This information does not include personally identifiable information, and we do not tie the information gathered by clear gifs to your personal information without informing you in each particular instance. We may also use clear gifs in our emails to let us know which emails have been opened by recipients. This allows us to gauge the effectiveness of certain communications and the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns, but you will always have the choice not to receive such emails.
We may obtain information about your physical location, such as by use of GPS and other geolocation features in your device, or by inference from other information we collect (for example, your IP address indicates the general geographic region from which you are connecting to the Internet). We may use this information to provide more relevant information to you.
We may obtain information from third parties and sources other than through the Site, such as our partners and advertisers.
The information we collect is used to improve the content of our Site, to notify registered Site visitors about news or updates with respect to our company and/or products or services, and in a variety of ways in providing the Site and our other products and services and otherwise operating our business, including the manners described below.
The information collected by Tintri will be used for sales and marketing initiatives. Registered users and those who sign up to receive communications from us will receive a periodic Tintri company newsletter, and occasional email announcements regarding company activities. Registered users will receive additional announcements from us about products, services, and a newsletter.
We use the information that we collect to operate, maintain, enhance and provide all features of our Site and our products and services, to provide services and information that you request, to respond to comments and questions and otherwise to provide support to users, and to process and deliver entries and rewards in connection with promotions that may be offered from time to time on our Site and/or products and services.
We use the information that we collect through our Site and/or products and services to understand and analyze the usage trends and preferences of our users, to improve the Site and products and services, and to develop new products, services, features, and functionality.
We may use your email address or other information we collect to contact you for administrative purposes such as customer service or to send communications, including updates on promotions and events, relating to products and services offered by us and by third parties.
Tintri may disclose information about you if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with state and federal laws, in response to a court order, judicial or other government subpoena or warrant, or to otherwise cooperate with law enforcement or other governmental agencies.
Tintri also reserves the right to disclose information about you that we believe, in good faith, is appropriate or necessary to (i) take precautions against liability, (ii) protect ourselves or others from fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful uses or activity, (iii) investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations, (iv) protect the security or integrity of the Site or our products and services and any facilities or equipment used to make them available, or (v) protect our property or other legal rights (including, but not limited to, enforcement of our agreements), or the rights, property, or safety of others.
In some cases, Tintri may choose to buy or sell corporate assets. In these types of transactions, customer information is typically a business asset that is transferred. Moreover, if Tintri, or substantially all of its assets were acquired, or in the unlikely event that Tintri goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, customer information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party.
Tintri may make certain aggregated, automatically-collected, or otherwise non-personal information available to third parties for various purposes, including (i) compliance with various reporting obligations; (ii) for business or marketing purposes; or (iii) to assist such parties in understanding our users’ interests, habits, and usage patterns for certain programs, content, services, advertisements, promotions, and/or functionality available through the Site or our products or services.
